This page should really be titled, “About My Mom – Barbara Boedicker.” This is her blog, with poems and pages from her journal. Lately, she has talked about finding a way to publish her writings on the internet, hoping the Lord might use these words to encourage and inspire others.
God has given her a special gift with her writing. When she finds out someone from the church has been ill or in the hospital, she loves to send cards. Most of us write a couple of sentences, along with a verse from Scripture. Mom goes above and beyond. She fills up every blank space, quoting her favorite verses and composing a personal message. People have commented about how much it brightens their day to receive a card from my mom.
This has been her ministry, over the past few years, while she has battled terminal illness. As her body has grown weaker, she hasn’t been able to get out as much as she would like, so she spends the days in her recliner reading the Bible. With journal in hand, she jots down verses that touch her heart, along with any questions or thoughts from the passage. She has completed several volumes, and when there are no pages left in the current book, she will send my dad off to the store to look for just the right style of journal.
Mom’s poems flow from her faith in Jesus Christ. Much of her writing focuses on the hope of eternal life we receive from Jesus, through his death, burial, and resurrection. Though her earthly body is growing weaker, she looks forward to the glorious body that awaits us. It is her desire that others would share in this hope, entering a personal relationship with God, and growing closer to the Lord each day. Her faith in Christ has been the source of her strength though the weary days. Despite the many trips to the doctor, blood draws, scans, and ER visits, she continues to smile, resonating with the joy that comes from the Lord.
So whatever struggles you might be facing today, I pray mom’s words would encourage you, as she has encouraged us.
